PLASTIC MOLDING TECHNOLOGY INC: Re: Work Exchange Around 2008 Google and Procter & Gamble (P&G) began swapping employees in an effort to foster creativity and establish a mutual relationship. Starting with about 24 employees, Google and P&G have been sitting in on each other's business meetings while brainstorming and offering outsider opinions and ideas. Many government agencies have similar programs to prepare future leadership using work exchange. PMT is looking at the potential of an exchange program. As a family owned business, it is important that a family member gain outside work experience prior to consideration for any long term employment at the company. How Long Do Exchanges Last? What About Pay? Healthcare? Most exchanges are full-time and last from three to six months. The pay should be covered by the new employer. Who Does the Job Back Home? Sometimes people who take on assignments don’t have their current job backfilled. Other times someone else from the organization moves up. Would it be best to hire the exchange worker as an independent contractor versus direct hire? Any ideas on this appreciated. Charles Sholtis
